About Mixura

The Science Behind
Perfect Color Matching

Professional-grade accuracy for serious painters.

Our Mission

Built for Artists, by Color Enthusiasts

We built Mixura because we were frustrated.

Frustrated with buying the wrong paint tubes. Frustrated with wasting hours at the art store comparing swatches. Frustrated with apps that promised color matching but delivered guesswork.

So we built something better: an app that uses real color science to give you accurate, actionable results.

Our goal is simple: help you spend less time matching colors and more time painting.

Our Database

Over 5,900 Paints. 20+ Brands. Complete Coverage.

We maintain accurate color data for every paint in our database. This isn't guesswork or manufacturer marketing—it's measured color science.

What We Store for Each Paint
  • Precise LAB color coordinates

  • Pigment codes (e.g., PR108, PY42, PB29)

  • Opacity rating (Opaque, Semi-Transparent, Transparent)

  • Lightfastness rating (I to V)

  • Series/price tier and paint line info

The Problem

Why Color Matching Is Hard

Your eyes adapt to lighting conditions. Your monitor shows a limited color gamut. Paint looks different wet versus dry. And that color chip from the art store? It rarely matches what comes out of the tube.

That's why eyeballing never works—and why we built Mixura.

Traditional methods fail because:

  • Human color perception varies between individuals
  • Lighting conditions constantly change
  • Screen colors don't match physical pigments
  • Memory for colors is unreliable
  • Trial and error wastes time and money

Mixura solves this with objective, scientific color measurement.

Color Technology
Color Science

LAB Color Space: The Foundation

Mixura works in the LAB color space (also called CIELAB), which is designed to match human perception.

Unlike RGB (how screens display color) or CMYK (for printing), LAB describes colors the way we actually see them:

Every paint in our database has been converted to precise LAB coordinates, enabling accurate matching across any color.

The Delta E 2000 Standard

Delta E (ΔE) measures the perceived difference between two colors—the same formula used by paint manufacturers and quality control labs.

Delta E What You See Rating
< 1.0 Identical Near-perfect
1.0 - 2.0 Barely perceptible ★★★★★
2.0 - 5.0 Noticeable if you look ★★★★
5.0 - 10.0 Obvious difference ★★★
> 10.0 Very different ★★

Mixura targets matches under Delta E 2.0

Pro Feature

When No Single Paint Matches

Sometimes the perfect color doesn't exist in a tube. That's where Mixura's mixing recommendations come in.

Our Algorithm:

  • 1 Identifies valid paint pairs within the same brand and line
  • 2 Tests mixing ratios from 10/90 to 90/10
  • 3 Calculates the resulting color using LAB interpolation
  • 4 Compares each mix to your target color
  • 5 Returns only mixes with Delta E under 5.0

Mixing recommendations are available with Mixura Pro.
